Dujiang Dam is located on the Minjiang River in the western Chengdu Plain, about 50 kilometers away from Chengdu City, which was founded in the third century BC. It is unique since it does not require dams to regulate the flow of water. For more than 2,000 years, Dujiang Dam has played an effective role in flood control and irrigation, making Chengdu Plain a fertile soil for drought and flood protection and one of China’s most significant grain production regions. The Dujiang Dam Project, which is the oldest still-in-use dam and can control water without help of dam embodies the wisdom of our people to live in harmony with nature.
