本期我们要学习一些专注力相关的词汇,可用到本季度P1口语 concentration话题中。
1. distract /dɪ'strækt/
v. 分散(注意力);使分心;
常见搭配:distract sb. (’s attention/ mind) from
e.g. The noise in the street distracted me from my reading.
e.g. Smartphones distract attention and reduce learning because of their potential to offer activities more inviting than studying.
补充:inviting adj. 诱人的
n. distraction 干扰;使人分心的事物
e.g. I can turn off the TV if you find it a distraction.
e.g. There are too many distractions here to work properly.
习语补充:drive someone to distraction 使某人心烦意乱
e.g. Their endless chatter drove her to distraction.
n. 消遣;娱乐
He found reading to be a good distraction.(a pastime)
2. wander /'wɒndə/
v. 走神;开小差;
常见搭配:mind/ thoughts/ attention wander(s) 走神
e.g. His mind would wander, and he would lose track of what he was doing.
e.g. The speech was boring and my mind began to wander.
v. 闲逛;漫步
e.g. When he got bored he wandered around the fair.
e.g. Visitors are free to wander through the gardens and woods.
3. zone /ˈzoʊn/
搭配:zone out: (由于过度劳累或厌倦等原因)注意力不集中
e.g. He tends to zone out when I talk to him about my job.
zone 作为名词本意为区域,zone out 为走神,反过来 in the zone 或者get in the zone 则表示投入做某件事。
e.g. Once you just kind of just get in the zone on your own, you become comfortable, and it becomes something natural, as opposed to something that you’re nervous about.

4. attentive /ə'tentɪv/
adj. 注意的;留意的;专心的
搭配:be attentive to 关注…
e.g. Attentive readers might notice some mistakes in the book.
e.g. He's very attentive to details.
adv. attentively.
e.g. She listened attentively while I poured out my problems.
注:pour out 倾吐,倾诉思想;感情或经历;
adj. 周到的
e.g. 周到的;体贴的
e.g. She was very attentive to her guests.
e.g. The nurse was attentive to his patient, constantly checking to be sure she was comfortable.
